(KMJ) By a 3-2 vote Tuesday morning, the Fresno County Board of Supervisors approved a controversial move to allow some EBT cards to be used at fast food restaurants.
Supervisors Poochigian and Borgeas voted against the plan while Supervisors Mendes, Pacheco and Perea voted in favor.
Borgeas said:
According to the Fresno County Department of Social Services, nearly 200,000 people rely on food stamps. But, fewer than ten percent would qualify for the CalFresh Restaurant Meals Program (CRMP).
A similar proposal failed a few years ago. Area Wendy’s restaurants have been accepting EBT cards for years while many other chains have been hesitant.
