January 5, 2016 -(KMJ) Fresno – Wet weather is arriving in the Valley, and more than a half inch of rain has drenched Merced in the last 48 hours.
El Nino is officially upon us, according to the National Weather Service, and with more rain expected throughout the week, the City of Merced is urging residents if they haven’t prepared, it’s not too late.
If your home has a potential for flooding,,,, sand and sandbags are available.
Sand locations can be found on the City of Merced’s website under the Public Works Department heading – look under Storm Information.
There is a map showing the locations where sand is available 24-7.
A limited supply of sandbags can be obtained at the Central Fire Station at 99 E. 16th St. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Fridays.
Sandbags can also be purchased at home improvement stores.

Be extra careful when you are driving in the rain:
• Drive with headlights on.
• Stay alert for vehicle hydroplaning.
• Apply brakes more slowly; they may pull.
• Leave extra distance between your car and the next motorist.
