Flight Club Basketball Academy Mentoring Young Athletes

FIGHT CLUB ACADEMY

Flight Club Basketball Academy just signed a partnership with the Fresno Parks & Recreation Department.

The basketball academy mentors young aspiring athletes who want to enter college on a basketball scholarship.

Blanton Simmons, the principal and mentor at the academy says they take a whole life approach – from nutrition to culture to academics.

“We are working on cultural exposure – taking them out to dinner, to the aquarium in Monterey and San Francisco, different things like this that will make them better people.” – Blanton Simmons, Principal & Mentor of Flight Club Basketball Academy.

Simmons teaches athletes discipline to take academics seriously, and offers five on one tutoring in hopes they’ll achieve a 3.0 GPA.

The Flight Club Basketball Academy still has openings.

Athletes should be entering 7th, 8th or 9th grade in the fall of 2015 in the Fresno area by the Frank H. Ball Center.

In December, the city will review the Flight Club Basketball Academy program and see if it will be extended for 2016.
