MERCED (KMJ) — Law enforcement up and down the valley and across the country are asking for your show of support this Wednesday.
It’s called ‘Back The Blue’, and it’s all about expressing gratitude for the everything peace officers are willing to do to keep us all safe.
It’s to get everyone to use the color blue to show their support, and as well as blue clothing, blue balloons, blue lights, and blue candles are also ways you can publicly back our peace officers.
“Anything that’s blue to show that you do support the men and women of law enforcement”, says Captain Tom Trindad with Merced Police.
“Back in 2004 we had a police Officer who was killed in the line of duty. I saw the street lined with people from the community and it was very heartwarming.”
“I know as part of his police family that I really did appreciate the outpouring of support and love that we got from the community. So I’m expecting a lot of people to participate in it and show their support for their law enforcement”.
It was one of the employees with the department who saw the idea spreading on social media – and suggested they be a part of it too.
“Then it started peculating through the city and the city said that they think it’s a good idea. Our community has a lot of support for law enforcement and we’d thought that we’d let people see how much support we do have from the community”.
It’s on throughout Wednesday, and if you want to publicly show your support of our Police, Sheriff’s Deputies, CHP, essentially anyone in law enforcement – then show off your blue any way you can.
