Air District Warns Of Smoke For Labor Day Weekend

ROUGH FIRE SMOKE

(KMJ) The Rough Fire, still burning near Hume Lake, has prompted local air officials to issue a health cautionary statement for smoke impacts.  The statement cautions those who plan to visit the Tulare and Fresno County foothill and mountain communities during the Labor Day weekend.

It cautions individuals planning to camp or recreate in these areas to be advised  they may be seriously impacted by smoke.  Rough Fire smoke may also impact  the Valley floor Saturday evening and into next week.  The Air District says it could potentially affecting Merced, Madera, Fresno, Tulare, Kings and the Valley air basin portion of Kern Counties.

In fact,  it says potential impacts from wildfire smoke will continue to be a concern until the fire is extinguished.

Smoke from fires produces fine-particulate matter, which can cause serious health problems including lung disease, asthma attacks and increased risk of heart attacks and stroke.
