(KMJ) – A Roanoke TV reporter and photojournalist were killed by a shooter during a live television interview this morning.
The crew was reporting live for WDBJ, which is the CBS affiliate in Roanoke. The shooting happened around 6:45 a.m. EST.
The station says the pair was working on a feature story about the 50th anniversary of near-by Smith Mountain Lake when the shooting occurred.
During the broadcast, seven shots were fired and the photographer, 27-year old Adam Ward. He appeared to fall to the ground while the reporter, 24-year old Alison Parker, screamed.
WDBJ posted on Twitter this morning — “We are trying to figure out what just happened. And we thank you all for your concern and kind words.”
Meantime, Schools in that area remain on lockdown as police investigate the scene and search for the shooter.
