Rep. Michael Cloud, R-Texas, told Newsmax on Friday that Microsoft’s recent disavowal of the media and information website rating system NewsGuard is “a good start” for the company, which he claims was part of a “censorship regime” under the previous administration.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, last month sent a letter to Microsoft questioning the company’s promotion and funding of NewsGuard’s “Media Literacy” program, which the senator claims is biased.
Microsoft said in response that its association with NewsGuard was only a one-time payment to the organization in 2018 and noted that they have asked NewsGuard to remove a notice from its website that read: “NewsGuard’s Media Literacy Programs are made possible thanks to generous support from Microsoft.”
