Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo., told Newsmax on Saturday that several Republican Senators breaking ranks to vote with the Democrats on key Cabinet positions prove that “there is a swamp, it is real, and it is bipartisan.”
Late Friday night, President Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth narrowly squeaked by to secure the post after three Republicans voted “no.” GOP Senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine, and Mitch McConnell of Kentucky voted against their party in siding with the Democrats to oppose Hegseth. Vice President J.D. Vance was needed to serve as the tie-breaking vote.
Burlison said regardless of how they got there, “it’s a tremendous win.”
