(KMJ) – Fort Washington Elementary students and staff alike took part in the 37th annual Turkey Trot and at nearby Fugman Elementary School, the community celebrated its second Turkey Trot event as well.
Dressed in a variety of costumes or craft accessories made in class (think turkey hats!), Fugman and Fort Washington students had fun jogging on the school lawn and in the nearby neighborhoods.
At Fort Washington, the fun run has awards for the fastest time and builds community camaraderie as students take to neighborhood streets while being cheered on by families and friends.
At Fugman Elementary, the Turkey Trot celebrate the school’s canned food drive benefitting the Fresno Rescue Mission.
This year, Fugman students donated more than 3,000 cans of green beans, corn, soups and more. The event culminated with lunch on the lawn and then a Turkey Bowl flag football game between the school football team and staff and cheerleaders.
“We wanted to create a community event to bring our parents, students and teachers together,” said Fugman Principal Jeremy Pierro.
Fort Washington students also held a canned food drive in partnership with their neighbor Clovis West High School that benefits Fresno’s Poverello House.
