FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — All students and staff are safe after a fire broke out at an elementary school in central Fresno.

Firefighters were called to Ericson Elementary on Yale at Sierra Vista just after 10 am Tuesday for smoke coming from a building.

Officials say roofing materials for a cafeteria under construction had caught fire.

Students and staff were able to safely evacuate according to their evacuation protocol, allowing fire crews to immediately start putting out the flames.

No one was hurt.

The fire sent up a massive plume of smoke that could be seen for miles.
