What Will McCarthy Do?

The deadline to file for reelection is Friday for former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield).

So far, the Bakersfield republican has been tight-lipped about running for an 11th term. This has led to a lot of speculation about a possible retirement after he was recently voted out of his speakership role.

While House Republicans await his decision, they’re planning to throw him a party.

According to a report in Politico, the House GOP’s campaign arm has invited members to a reception on Dec. 13 that thanks the ousted speaker for his “tireless work in support” of their electoral efforts “and delivering our House majority.”

If McCarthy retires, will former Representative Devin Nunes seek to replace him?

The current CEO of Truth Social answered that question on a recent podcast with the San Joaquin Valley Sun, “As far as it goes for him – whether or not he’s going to stay or not – look, until he calls me or he speaks or he says something, I’m just assuming that he’s running, that he’s going to run again,” Nunes said. “And I’m not going to do or say anything that would prohibit that. I’d be glad to support him if he wants to continue to run, and we’ll leave it at that.”
