FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A vigil and rally for justice will be held at Hoover High School on Wednesday at the site where a teenager was killed in a hit and run, last October.
Family, friends, and fellow students of hit-and-run victim Rashad Al-Hakim Jr. will gather at Hoover High School March 1st at 4:00pm.
It’s the day before the 8:30 am hearing for 39-year Lisa Spoors at Fresno Superior Court.
She’s the motorist accused of striking 15-year-old Al-Hakim on October 4th, 2022, when he was crossing the street by Hoover High.
Police say Rashad was running across the street around 6:00 p.m. when he was hit by an oncoming car.
He later died on Oct 10th, 2022.
Spoors had a prior 2008 conviction for driving under the influence.
Her toxicology report did not come back clean – illicit and prescription substances were found in her screening.
She’s now facing three felony counts – murder, driving under the influence of a drug causing great bodily harm, and one count of failure to perform a duty following a collision causing death.
If convicted of the charges and allegations, Spoors faces a sentence of 15 years to life in prison.
Her bail was reduced from $1 million to $150,000 dollars.
Organizers from the Community Justice Center say Spoor’s being given preferential treatment, and their rally is to bring what they say is injustice to light in the community.
