The dangers of teens –texting and driving —has the Parlier Police Department and the Parlier Unified School District kicking off an anti-texting campaign.
On their first week back, greeting high schoolers who were returning to school was a wrecked truck on the lawn.
On the truck was a banner that read “One Text or Call —Could Wreck It All.”
The Parlier Unified School District, and Parlier Police Department wants to reminds kids that texting and driving has potentially deadly consequences.
Over 3,300 people were killed and over 421,000 were injured in 2012 due to distracted drivers.
A recent study showed that 77% of young adults think that they can safely text and drive.
They hope the wrecked truck will open a dialogue, amongst our teens and amongst their parents, about the dangers of distracted driving.
Driving while “intexticated is as dangerous as driving while intoxicated.
Officers have been encouraged to “educate before enforce” and caution our youth not to let their last text be their last words!
The Parlier Police Department will be deploying additional officers in school zones to enforce speed and cell phone violations over the next few weeks.
