Fresno County DA Investigator Dies in Solo Vehicle Accident

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A Fresno County DA Investigator has died in a a solo vehicle accident on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, August 24, 2021, Fresno County District Attorney Investigator, Michael Rossi, a 22-year law enforcement veteran, passed away at Saint Agnes Medical Center in Fresno.

The 49-year-old began his law enforcement career in October 1999 with the Fresno Police Department after successfully completing the Police Academy where he graduated with the Top Academic Student Award.

During his career with Fresno PD, he worked in several different units, including serving as a Field Training Officer, Robbery Investigator, Auto Theft Investigator, and with the Professional Standards Compliance Unit.

In 2015, after a distinguished career with Fresno Police Department, he retired and was immediately rehired as a background investigator for both the Fresno Police Department and the Fresno Police Chaplaincy.

Rossi joined the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office on January 13, 2020 as a Special Investigator.

He was currently working under the Public Aid and Operations Unit, where he had been assigned the last 20 months.

“Today, our DA Family lost a wonderful man, Investigator Mike Rossi. Our hearts are broken, and we are praying for Mike’s wife, Amanda, and his children as they mourn the loss of this wonderful human being,” said Fresno County District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp.

The DA’s Office said in a release that Rossi was enjoying his employment at the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office so much that he was once again becoming a Sworn Peace Officer and was going to become a Senior District Attorney Investigator.

Rossi was driving to his POST Training at the time of the accident Tuesday morning.

The cause of death is still under investigation.
