INCLINE VILLAGE, NV — A teenager is dead after a boating incident on Lake Tahoe over the 4th of July holiday weekend.
Multiple agencies responded to a distressed boat in the area of Secret Cove just after 6 p.m. on Monday, July 5.
Authorities said all the occupants on the boat were between the ages of 17 and 18.
The Washoe County coroner identified the teen who died as 17-year-old Myles Kawashima of Greenbrae, California. Officials with the Nevada Department of Wildlife are working to determine if the teen fell or jumped off the boat before he died.
A spokesman for NDOW said the teen was not wearing a lifejacket when he was pulled from Lake Tahoe. Kawashima was pronounced dead before arriving at the hospital in Incline Village.
The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office said the cause of death is still under investigation.
