Tulare County Fights Nursing Home Hot Spots, Fresno County Creating Path to COVID 19 Recovery

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Tulare County is fighting outbreaks in nursing homes, and there are plans in the works for a path to recovery from Fresno County.

Tulare County Public Heath Department’s infection control is investigating 11 new cases of COVID 19 at Lindsay Gardens Nursing and Rehabilitation.

At Redwood Springs Healthcare, staff and patients who have fallen sick comprise half of Tulare County’s COVID 19 cases.

The nursing home confirmed two more deaths on Wednesday, becoming the 14th and 15th deaths in Tulare County from COVID-19, both in patients over the age of 65.

Dozens of nurses from Kaweah Delta along with medical personal from Adventist Health Tulare and Sierra View Medial Center are setting up a command center in Tulare County to help with the surge.

Health officials said 18 have people recovered from corona virus in Tulare County.

Speaking to local media by Zoom on Wednesday, Fresno County’s Interim Heath Director Dr. Rais Vohra said there were 265 cases, 14 more since Tuesday, 7 people died, 62 had recovered.

Upon directions from Cal/OSHA, Dr.Vohra said Fresno County has amended a prior health order to clarify when people can return to work.

He said people with febrile respiratory symptoms should isolate for a minimum of 7 days before being tested for COVID-19.

Dr. Vohra said Fresno County is starting to look to the future and has devised a checklist for recovery, naming 6 key indicators; from increased testing, to boosting the hospital and urgent care, staff, equipment and infrastructure, and maintaining social distancing requirements for schools, day cares and businesses.

Merced County saw two new cases bringing the total to 78, 26 people recovered, 3 people died.

3 people died in Kern County, where they saw 22 new cases Wednesday, up to 562 total COVID-19 cases, and 32 children tested positive.

Madera County reported no new cases on Wednesday.

Mariposa still has not seen any cases.
