LOS ANGELES, CA (KMJ) – The first Coronavirus death has been reported in L.A. County.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health says the person who died was woman over 60 who was not a resident but was visiting friends.
Officials said she had recently traveled extensively and had a long layover in South Korea.
Officials says six new cases, bring the total up to at least 26 in Los Angeles County.
Gov. Gavin Newsom urges California’s nearly 40 million residents to avoid sporting events, concerts and large gatherings to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The warning came during Newsom’s update on Tuesday as he expects the number of cases to significantly increase in the coming days.
Newsom warned the elderly to stay away from cruise ships, and is considering restricting cruise travel off the California coast.
More than 2,000 passengers from a cruise ship struck by the coronavirus have been disembarking and are being moved to U.S. military bases for quarantine.
