FRIANT, CA. (KMJ) — A fight inside a Fresno County hemp products store – after an employee is fired – ends with a stabbing.

Fresno County Sheriff’s Sergeant Adam Maldonado says it happened around 6:00 Thursday night.

42-year-old Kelly Richardson was locking up the Yosemite Hemp Company in Friant, when 27-year-old Jose Ramos, the employee he fired, came out of nowhere and stabbed him in the neck.

Fresno County sheriff’s detectives said Richardson found out Ramos had used drugs and told him he could no longer work there.

Richardson’s brother was in the store at the time and heard the commotion, ran up behind Ramos and placed him in a choke-hold.

Richardson wrestled the knife from the suspect and called 9-1-1 while holding the suspect down.

Ramos was taken by ambulance to the hospital for injuries he got fighting with the owner’s brother, then arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.

Kelly Richardson was treated for the stab wound and has been released. His brother is not facing any charges for the injuries caused to Ramos.

This continues to be an ongoing investigation.
