FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – More lives are lost on the state’s roads during the holiday.
Nine people were killed in 7 fatal collisions throughout California during the CHP’s 2019 Christmas Day maximum enforcement period, five were not wearing a seatbelt.
In 2018, 31 people were killed in 27 collisions throughout the 30-hour period.
CHP officers made 271 arrests this Christmas period for driving under the influence, down vastly from the 1166 people who found themselves behind bars in 2018
A similar holiday enforcement effort will be conducted next week, during New Year’s .
