UPDATE: Fresno Sheriff’s Detectives have booked 36-year-old Hileberto Valtierra into the Fresno County Jail for murder and attempted murder in the shooting death of 16-year-old Angel Trejo from San Joaquin.
At this time, he is not eligible for bail.
FRESNO, CA (KMJ) Detectives arrest man for shooting death of 16 year old San Joaquin boy.
Tuesday afternoon, detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s MAGEC team collaborated with officers of the Salinas Police Department to arrest a murder suspect, 36 year old Hileberto Valtierra Jr. of Le Grand (Merced County).
Salinas Police apprehended Valtierra during a traffic stop after he was seen riding as a passenger in a car that had left a home on the 1600 block of Cherokee Drive in Salinas.
Around 9:00 pm on Monday, a shooting took place at the Garden Valley Apartments located on the 9500 block of Flores Drive in San Joaquin.
Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the complex and found a 16 year old boy, later identified as Angel Trejo, who had been fatally shot.
Deputies were told the victim’s brother, who is in his early 20s, was also shot and injured. However, he was not at the scene.
While responding to the call, the sheriff’s helicopter, EAGLE One, spotted a car driving extremely fast away from the scene.
Ground units were notified and deputies stopped the vehicle.
It turns out the injured victim was inside the car and his family was attempting to drive him to the hospital.
An ambulance responded, picked up the young man and transported him to the hospital.
He is listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Homicide detectives and members of the Crime Scene Unit responded to the apartment complex to collect evidence and interview witnesses.
Detectives learned Hileberto Valtierra was responsible for shooting Trejo and his brother, developed information that Valtierra might have traveled to Salinas.
Sheriff’s detectives secured a search warrant for a home on Cherokee Drive and were assisted by the Salinas Police SWAT team.
While in the area of the home, officers noticed a car with a man in it who matched Valtierra.
Officers pulled the car over near Cherokee Dr. and Quintero Circle and they took him into custody without incident.
Arrangements are being made to transport Valtierra to Fresno to be booked into jail.
A motive for the crime has not been established, however,detectives say it is clear that Valtierra knew both of his victims.
The Sheriff’s Office said he previously been in a dating relationship with the victims’ mother.
