FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A Fresno man is facing a slew of charges after being arrested for carjacking and home invasion.
Two people are victimized, said Fresno Police, the first was a 45-year-old Lyft driver who was carjacked from Clovis and Shields, last Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019.
He and the passenger – now identified as 28-year-old Gerardo Madrigal – ended up in the parking lot of the Wells Fargo at 790 West Shaw, around 1:00 am, Saturday.
He told police that Madrigal pointed a gun at him and demanded money.
He said the two fought, he passed out and Madrigal stole his car.
The vehicle was located three hours later near Maroa and Barstow.
It was in the same area that Lt. Larry Bowlan said the next crime took place at 11:40 am
The victim was a 66-year-old woman.
“Through their investigation, they learned that the same suspect from the previous carjacking and robbery had broken into the victim’s residence and held her against her will inside her home for several hours at gunpoint,” said Lt. Bowlan.
After the suspect left the victim’s house, she was able to escape and notified a neighbor.
The suspect stole her vehicle, which was later located and recovered in Southwest Fresno.
On Sunday, November 10, 2019 at approximately 1:00 pm Madrigal was seen walking in the area of Eunice and Reverend Chester Riggins Blvd.
He was apprehended, after a short foot chase, without incident.
Police said he’s now looking at 5 or 6 charges.
“Carjacking, kidnapping, home invasion, holding the victim in the second case against her will, robbery and auto theft, said Lt. Bowlan.
Police say both victims only received minor injuries in both incidents.
