FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A woman is booked on charges connected to a deadly collision in central Fresno
It was just before 10:00 pm Monday, Nov. 11, when the California Highway Patrol said a man drove into the center median on Highway 180, near the 41 Interchange.
Tony Botti from the Fresno County Coroner’s Office releasing the identity of the victim.
“We have since identified the person to be 20-year-old Xavier Olivares, of Fresno,” said Botti.
CHP officers continue to investigate what caused Olivares to crash into the center median.
The CHP said that’s when Andrea Zapien allegedly struck Olivares with her SUV by the Eastbound lanes of 180.
The 23-year-old is suspected of being under the influence of marijuana at the time.
Zapien faces misdemeanor charges of DUI and driving without a license.
The Sheriff’S Office said she was issued a citation and released from jail early Tuesday morning.
The Highway Patrol says this deadly crash makes the third recently where marijuana was potentially a factor in a deadly crash.
