Fresno State Mourns Passing of Long-Time Police Chief

(KMJ) –  Fresno State confirms the head of its campus Police Department has passed away.

David Huerta, Fresno State’s Police Chief since August 2004, passed away on August 16th surrounded by his family and close friends.   His death comes 13 months after he was hospitalized  at UCSF Medical Center for a double lung transplant.

“Chief David Huerta was an exemplary leader of our campus police department,” said Fresno State University President Joseph Castro. “He had unwavering integrity, even under the most challenging circumstances. Most importantly, he was devoted to his wife, Cynthia, and his children. David will be deeply missed by all of us at the University.”

President Castro ordered the University’s flags to be posted at half-staff on the date of his service in memory of Chief Huerta and his service to Fresno State.

David Huerta was 68-years old and is survived by his wife, four children, and three grandchildren.
