TULARE CO. (KMJ) – Felony charges are filed against a woman accused of driving drunk near Strathmore on Sunday, killing four people on motorcycles.
Jazmin Paramo was arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Department 16 of the Tulare County Superior Court, South County Justice Center in Porterville.
Tulare County District Attorney Tim Ward filed criminal charges for a DUI incident that took the lives of four people on August 4, 2019, on Highway 65 near Strathmore.
The DA alleges 24-year-old Paramo was driving the wrong-way when she slammed head-on into the victims.
The two couples had been riding two motorcycles when they were hit.
Gilbert Vargas, Mitzi Rodriguez and Jose and Rita Vargas all died in the collision.
Paramo is charged with four felony counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, one felony count of driving the wrong way on a divided highway causing injury or death, and one misdemeanor count of driving on a suspended license.
Bail was set at $400,000.
Paramo is scheduled to return to court for a bail hearing on August 8, and a preliminary hearing conference on August 14.
If convicted on all counts, Paramo faces up to 16 years in state prison.
