FRESNO (KMJ) – Congressman Devin Nunes’ campaign is suing four activists who tried to stop him from using the word “farmer” to describe his occupation on the 2018 ballot, saying they were working with a super PAC and likely the Andrew Janz campaign.
Fresno attorney Peter Kapetan is representing Nunes.
“The suit is an attempt to check the unbridled use of dark money in political campaigns, which is really detrimental to our democratic system,” Kapetan said.
The suit claims the activists were recruited by the super PAC, “Fight Back California,” to ask a judge to have the state of California remove the word “farmer” from Nunes’ ballot designation.
“I sincerely believe that all citizens, regardless of their political affiliation should be very concerned about the use of dark money in political campaigns,” Kapetan said.
The lawsuit will be heard in Tulare County.
