FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Fresno Police say the suspect in a DUI crash that killed a father of 5 was driving 2-times over the legal limit.
Police say the suspect, 21-year-old Gustavo Adrian Blanco Jr. from Tulare was speeding more than 70 miles per hour as he plowed through a red light just before ten Sunday Night at the intersection of Kings Canyon and Maple.
Police Chief Jerry Dyer says Blanco hit the victim’s car, killing 40-year old Shawn Milton – a father of five –expecting his sixth child next month.
His passenger, 48-year-old Charles Michada was rushed to CRMC in critical but stable condition.
Chief Dyer said the impact sent the suspect’s car traveling 250 feet – before crashing into a chain link fence.
Blanco faces vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI.
Dyer says Blanco was under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol over .20 which is two and a half times over the legal limit.
Blanco was booked into jail and his bail set at 159 thousand dollars will be increasing.
Of the 22 fatalities on the roads this year, Chief Dyer said 10 people were high or drunk, and Fresno Police have seen 100 more DUI arrests this year compared to last — with a higher alcohol level seen in those arrested this year compared to 2018.
