ROSEVILLE, CA (KMJ) – Memorial services were held Thursday for a young California police officer, killed in the line of duty.
Hundreds packed Bayside Church’s Adventure Campus in Roseville to honor slain officer Tara O’Sullivan.
Speaking at the services for the 26-year old was her mentor and family friend, Sergeant Fred Ferrer from the Martinez Police Department.
“I was a corporal at the time, said ‘I’m Corporal Ferrer, I run the explorer program,‘ she stood up shook my hand said ‘I’m Miss Tara O’Sullivan.’ I knew right then and there that she had a strength that was going to be unleashed.”
Other speakers at her memorial remembered her for her bravery and tenacity.
O’Sullivan had been an officer for six months, when she was shot while responding to a domestic violence call on June 19, 2019.
She was the first Sacramento officer to die in the line of duty in 20 years.
More than 500 police vehicles were taking part in a procession in Sacramento as part of her memorial services.
Adel Sambrano Ramos, the man accused of shooting O’Sullivan, remains behind bars.
He made his first appearance in court on Monday facing a murder charge that could lead to the death penalty.
He did not enter a plea.
