TULARE, CA (KMJ) – A Porterville man will spend the next decade behind bars for a series of felonies and a string of dangerous and life endangering crimes.

Michael Chavez is considered to be a career criminal, with crimes ranging from residential burglary, to resisting and evading peace officers, hit and run, drug sales, auto and identity theft, even violence towards a police dog.

Now the 40-year-old man will spend the next 14 years behind bars.

A judge in Tulare County Superior Court consolidated four separate cases, sentencing Chavez for crimes spanning from September 2016 to April of 2018.

Chavez’s attempt to evade authorities ended in a crash that injured another driver.

Drugs, weapons, stolen mail and a Jeep Grand Cherokee have all been seized by Porterville Police.

Chavez’s pleas in these cases constitute a total of 29 felony convictions from 16 separately filed felony cases since 2001.
