San Francisco – The latest round in the fight between the state’s wildfire survivors and PG&E is over.
PG&E has received approval to establish a $105 million fund to help survivors of recent wildfires sparked by the company’s power lines. A federal bankruptcy judge approved the “Wildfire Assistance Program” Wednesday. Lawyers for victims argued PG&E could afford to pay up to $250 million to help people effected by the massive wildfires, saying that’s close to the $235 million the utility will pay in employee bonuses this year.
The judge said he wanted the fund up and running as quickly as possible. PG&E filed for bankruptcy protection in January.
