City of Fresno Breaks Ground on New Southeast District Police Substation

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – The City of Fresno breaks ground Monday on the new Southeast District Police Substation.

City officials say it’s been an idea two dozen years in the making, through the administrations of four different mayors.

Police Chief Jerry Dyer speaking at the ceremony said the one hundred or so officers patrolling in the area will now have a substation.

The site is a dirt field at Tulare Avenue and Argyle Avenue, in the same area where the Fancher Creek Development is going to be built.

Luis Chavez, District 5 Council Member called it a “renaissance” for the area that he oversees.

Mayor Lee Brand says it’s a visible sign of his administration’s effort to boost public safety.

The 10,200 square-foot substation facility will help police in Fresno protect and serve the 130,000 residents in the area.

The construction project is costing 6.5 million dollars.

Scott Mosier, the Public Works Director for the City of Fresno says the city refinanced enough debt to have surplus general fund money.

Mosier says the police station is expected to be completed around May of 2020.
