Man Accused of Stealing 1500-2000 Pieces of Mail in Fresno

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) — A man is accused if stealing a “prolific” amount of mail.

Fresno Police held a news conference at the Northwest Police District on W Shaw Ave. on Friday.

They announced the arrest of Justin Deger, suspected of stealing 1500 to 2000 pieces of mail.

Captain Burke Farrah said Deger was taken into custody for the mail thefts that affected around 500 people.

Captain Farrah also said the department is talking to the U.S. Postal Service, which may file federal charges against Deger.

Deger is being held in Fresno County Jail on a bail of $210,000.

Police recovered 1,500 items of mail, counterfeit cash and mailboxes ripped out of the ground.

Deger was linked to a vehicle burglary where officers recovered stolen mail.

Later, police says a stolen with mail found inside was linked to him, and Deger allegedly was seen on video opening mailboxes in a neighborhood late at night, thanks to reports from the Nextdoor app.

Detectives also recovered counterfeit cash and even mailboxes that were ripped out of the ground.
