FRESNO (KMJ) — The suspect accused of leading officers on a chase that ended in a fatal crash has been identified.
Fresno Police spotted a car Wednesday evening they believed was used in an armed liquor store robbery early February. Officers say it was being driven by 28 year old Ruby Garcia, and then sped away running several red lights before crashing into a vehicle with four people inside it at Fresno and Princeton. That crash killed a 55-year old woman.
“There were some spontaneous statements made by her at the scene that we’re trying to investigate a little bit further,” explained Deputy Police Chief Michael Reed.
“She invoked her right to an attorney quickly, so we can’t ask her any further questions on that. So the investigation not going to come from her statements, it’s going to come from what we can find out outside of that.”
Garcia has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
