FRESNO (KMJ) — Detectives with Fresno County Sheriff’s Office have started their investigation into what led to a man in his early 30s being found dead by the side of the road.
The discovery on Dower Avenue, south of Herndon Avenue and west of the City of Fresno, came Wednesday around 7.15am. It was initially reported to CHP and the investigation was passed onto Fresno County Sheriff’s Office when officers discovered a gunshot wound.
A motive for is yet to be established. The victim’s identity has not been officially announced and an autopsy has been scheduled.
“We’ll obviously try to get a hold of people in these homes that are in the immediate vicinity, try and see if this was a break in,” said Fresno County Sheriff’s Office’s Tony Botti.
“Maybe this person was involved with the suspects at one point and they turned on him. A lot of things going right now. We don’t know if the person was actually killed here or if this was a body dump.”
Detectives have been searching for surveillance cameras in the area and have asked local residents to check their footage as well for any video of the incident.
