MODESTO (KMJ) — The suspect wanted for the shooting death of Newman Police Corporal Ronil Singh was in the United States illegally, according to Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Chris Christianson.

In a press conference Thursday morning, Sheriff Christianson also revealed that investigators know the identity of the suspect.

“I’m pretty sure some of you have already figured out who it is. But it’s not appropriate for me to identify until we absolutely are 100% certain that we have the right name. Many people share common names – we don’t want to make a mistake like that.”

The officially unidentified person is wanted following the shooting death of the 33 year old early Wednesday (click here to read more).

“The primary suspect is the only suspect wanted in the murder of Officer Singh,” said Sheriff Christianson.

Investigators believe the suspect is still in Stanislaus County. While an appeal was made for him to give himself up, the Sheriff warned him that multiple teams are continuing a relentless search to find him.

Members of the public have been asked not to approach the suspect but to call 911 immediately.
