FRESNO (KMJ) — A woman and her daughter may be forced out of their home at Christmas after a fire inside their Southeast Fresno home.
The call came at around 10.30am Monday. Five engines and two truck companies attended the incident at an apartment building close to Lane and Winery Avenues. Crews made entry into the building and rescued the mother and daughter trapped inside. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“At the time of the fire they were in the back bedroom and the smoke detectors activated and that alerted them to the fire,” said Captain Robert Castillo.
“That’s just a good reminder to make sure everybody has their working smoke detectors and to ensure their batteries are working.”

The two inside the apartment were both checked by EMS on scene and released.
The investigation into the incident has begun. If the blaze is determined to be due to an electrical fault then the family will have to find somewhere else to spend Christmas Day.
