FRESNO (KMJ) — Fresno County Board of Supervisors has approved the purchase of a home in Southeast Fresno, but has no firm plans what it will be used for.

The property at 6870 E Kings Canyon is listed as a four bedroom, three bathroom, home. Real estate website Zillow estimates it to be worth approximately $454,000 (click here). The agenda item proposed a purchase price of $525,000 with closing costs estimated at $15,000.

The agenda described the property as providing improved access to an adjoining property already owned by the County of Fresno. It also disclosed that “the ultimate plan for the use or development of the Property is uncertain and undefined at this time.”

“We bought that Caltrans piece for such a low amount that actually to make the piece square was to buy this,” explained Supervisor Buddy Mendes.

Mendes revealed that the purchase price for that parcel of land was approximately $150,000.

An unidentified member of the public questioned the Board of Supervisors on the proposal, telling members that there was nothing in the area of Temperance Avenue and Kings Canyon Road.

“Is there any reason for Temperance and Kings Canyon, really, or do you guys just want to buy it? Do we need it, or do you want it?”

His questions remained unanswered and the discussion was brought back to the dais.

The home lies in District 5, and that area’s representative Supervisor Nathan Magsig proposed the motion to approve the purchase. It was seconded by Supervisor Buddy Mendes, and passed unanimously.
