100% Renewable Electricity By 2045 Will Fight “Existential Threat”

SACRAMENTO (KMJ) — California has set itself the goal of 100% carbon-neutral electricity in less than 10,000 days. The signing of SB 100 requires all power supplied in the state be from renewable sources by the end of 2045.

Governor Jerry Brown gave his approval to the Senate Bill Monday morning, in front of a packed stage in the State Capitol.

“There’s no understating the importance of this measure,” Governor Brown told the crowd.

“SB 100 is sending a message to California and to the world that we’re going to meet the Paris Agreement and we’re going to continue down that path to transition our economy to zero-carbon emissions and to have the resiliency and sustainability that science tells us we must achieve.”

Governor Brown admitted that the impact will not be immediate, but declared that it must be done to meet the existential threat of climate change.

“And yes it is an existential threat, no matter what the naysayers may say, it is a real and present danger to California and the world.”

The move comes days before the Global Climate Action Summit starts in San Francisco. The gathering, which is set to include investors, scientists, and non-profits, is designed to showcase efforts to counter climate change.
