FRESNO (KMJ) — Congressman Devin Nunes has told KMJ efforts are now in play to bring more water to the Central Valley through a realigning of the rules.
It comes after lawmakers on Capitol Hill consistently fail to make changes to the Endangered Species Act to bring in a legislative fix.
“The Trump administration has 100% backed our bill. They have said they will sign our bill if the Senate would deliver it to them,” said Congressman Nunes.
“But as you know it takes 60 votes in the Senate and neither one of our two senators are willing.”
Nunes revealed that the Department of Interior has been figuring out a way to get the pumps moving again.
“We’ve been working with the Department of Interior looking at what they can do on the rules side of things.
“They’re limited as to what they can do but…this is the most attention we’ve had from a president on what I would say pro-water opportunities than we’ve ever had in my lifetime.”
The Tulare representative added that Secretary Ryan Zinke has given his staff two weeks to establish a plan of action.
