SACRAMENTO (KMJ/AP) – The Trump administration has revealed plans to change fuel efficiency standards set out by the Obama administration.
The proposal would put the brakes on the push to promote more miles-per-gallon and reduce the amount of pollution coming from tailpipes. Notice was also filed on Thursday to stop California and other states from setting their own standards.
In a statement, the Environmental Protection Agency described the move as giving the American people “greater access to safer, more affordable vehicles that are cleaner for the environment.”
But Governor Jerry Brown considers it a betrayal and an assault on the health of Americans everywhere.
“Under his reckless scheme, motorists will pay more at the pump, get worse gas mileage and breathe dirtier air. California will fight this stupidity in every conceivable way possible.”
