MADERA (KMJ) — Work has begun on a $53 million office complex set to be the new home of Madera County’s Department Public Health and Department of Social Services.
The groundbreaking on the Health and Human Services complex Friday morning saw officials from both departments, and members of the Board of Supervisors, turn out for the ceremonial start of construction.
“This is going to update our current facilities to better serve the people,” explained Supervisor Brett Frazier.
Once constructed, the four buildings making up the site will be 39,200 sq ft each. The site is just outside the City of Madera at Road 28 and Avenue 14½. The project was approved by the Board of Supervisors in November 2017.
“Scheduled completion will be winter 2019 for the whole facility. So it’ll be quicker rather than later, people won’t even remember when it wasn’t here,” added Frazier.
Officials revealed that the cost of the facility buildings have already been incorporated into Madera County’s budget and should not require more money from the general fund.
