FRESNO (KMJ) — Thong Vang has been sentenced to 112 years to life behind bars, after being found guilty of the Fresno County jail lobby shooting.
Following the incident in September 2016, Vang was charged with the attempted murder of Correctional Officers Toamalama Scanlan and Juanita Davila. He also faced charges of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was found guilty on all counts in March.
His sentencing Friday was witnessed by Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims, whose office oversees the jail site.
“I’m very gratified that the Judge, after careful review of all the material, pretty much gave this coward the max for his acts when shooting two Fresno County Sheriff’s Correctional Officers.”

Sheriff Mims refused to say his name, adding that “coward” was the best term she could use that would be suitable for broadcast.
“He is really going to be where he deserves to be. He is a proven career criminal. He proves that this is his nature to commit crimes and to prey on other people.”
Fresno County District Attorney’s Office announced that Vang will soon be in the custody of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, to be housed in state prison.
