VISALIA (KMJ) — Tulare County’s Sheriff, District Attorney, and Fire Chief, spent Thursday morning cooking breakfast to raise money for premature babies.
Organizers of the second annual pancake breakfast in Visalia hope they have raised around $1,000 to donate to the cause.
The event outside the Peace Officer’s Memorial was organized by March of Dimes to benefit “March for Babies.”
“We promote strong moms and healthy babies. We want to prevent premature birth, birth defects, and infant mortality,” explained the non-profit’s Nancy Conway.
“Unfortunately one in ten babies is born prematurely and premature birth is the number one killer of babies under the age of one.”
Each hungry member of the public gave $5 per breakfast, which included sausage and pancakes.
“The March of Dimes has been doing a great job for decades,” said Tulare County Fire Chief Charlie Norman.
“To be able to assist in that and help, and give those kids and healthy start – that’s what it’s all about.”
