FRESNO (KMJ) — Cold temperatures are expected in the Central Valley in the coming days. A Hard Freeze Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service, with temperatures potentially falling as low as 22°F in some parts.
“The cold air will stay in place all the way into Thursday night and early Friday morning. So we’re expecting two nights of low to mid 20s,” explained Hanford based National Weather Service meteorologist Jim Dudley.
Experts warn that the temperatures could impact pipes, plants sensitive to the cold, and animals kept outside.
“This is dropping down from the Gulf of Alaska and western Canada. Even though the front moves through today [Wednesday], it’s going to bring some light precipitation, some light rain precipitation in the valley and maybe two to three inches of snow up in the mountains,” added Dudley.
“Not a big storm, it’s been a very dry year.”
That front is expected to be out of the Central Valley by the end of Wednesday, leaving the low temperatures behind it. The coldest morning is expected to be Friday.
“It still will be in the 20s overnight for at least a couple of nights so we’re going to have to monitor this to see if we have to extend any type of hard freeze weather advisories or warnings.”
