FRESNO (KMJ) — A man described as a “sexually violent predator” will be living in a Fresno motel on a permanent basis.
The decision inside Fresno County Superior Court Monday morning means Jeffrey Snyder will be housed in the El Muir Motel on 2339 S. G Street. The 62 year old had previously stayed there during his release on a transient basis (click here to read more).
“We would prefer he’s in the hospital, but the court made a different decision” revealed Senior Deputy District Attorney Rick Thomas.
“This place, so far, seems to be working for him. There’s been no real issues there. We are concerned about the proximity to the school but as it was pointed out in court it’s not a direct line, it’s not across the street.
“This motel deals with parolees, has a fence around it, so it’s probably the best of a bad situation.”
Judge Gary D. Hoff revealed that he had visited the area in question. He described it as suitable for Snyder, but reminded him that he was still being monitored (Snyder will have an ankle monitor to track his movements, as well as routine lie detector tests and psychological evaluations.)
“If it’s your violation, then you will be removed from the community,” warned Judge Hoff.
The hearing notice from Fresno County District Attorney’s Office made it clear that the public was permitted to comment on the proposed location before it was finalized by the Court. A total of seven emails and three letters were received by Fresno County officials prior to Monday’s decision.
“Previous hearings there was a lot more input from the community,” revealed Thomas.
Both Jeffrey Snyder and his defense attorney Curtis Sok left Department 71 soon after the decision was made. Neither spoke to the assembled media outside.
The next hearing date has been set for July 23rd 2018.
