MADERA (KMJ) — Deputies in Madera County are searching for two people they say robbed a gas station, and then fired shots which killed an employee.

The incident was called into dispatch around 11pm Monday, and Madera County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Tackle Box Gas Station and Mini Mart on Road 26, just north of the City of Madera.

“So far we have been able to determine that two suspects went into the store,” explained Commander Bill Ward.

“They stole cash and two large boxes full of cartons of cigarettes. Once they were done with that they fired several shots, one of which did strike the employee and killed him.”

The victim’s identity is still to be officially released.

One of the two suspects is described as wearing a black jacket, gray pants, socks and no shoes, with a blue bandanna over his face.

The other described as wearing a black “Reebok” sweatshirt, black pants, black and white shoes, and a white bandana over his face. Both were wearing gloves.

“On the video, we also found someone who may be a witness to this,” continued Commander Ward. “In part of the video we were able to see a white car pull up to the front of the store and then leave.

“We think that person may have seen the robbery or something that looks suspicious to him so he left. So we’re asking him to come forward because it’s possible that he may have seen the suspect’s vehicle out in the parking lot or over by the gas pump.”

That witness, seen driving a white Acura, is being asked to contact investigators. Anyone else who may know something about the incident is also urged to get in touch with Madera County Sheriff’s Office. Information can be called into deputies directly on (559) 675-7770 or via Valley Crimestoppers on (888) 498-STOP.
