FRESNO (KMJ) — A pair of American Red Cross volunteers from the Central Valley are now on their way to Florida, to deliver help and supplies to areas soon to be impacted by Hurricane Irma.

Ray and Jerry set off Thursday, driving a vehicle specifically designed to take clean up supplies and water, as well as provide hot meals.

“This is one of nearly 80 of these vehicles that are going to making this journey today, and over the next few days, as we prepare to shelter and help thousands of people potentially, who have impacted by this storm,” explains the non-profit’s Jessica Piffero.

After signing the necessary forms, and receiving their instructions, the pair set off for the town of White Springs.

“It’s an iconic image for our organization, and it really is just one of those really essential vehicles that we have that provides relief.”

Piffero describes the effort as critical to the American Red Cross’ operation during disasters like this.

“We’re delivering food right to their door and giving them clean drinking water and cleanup supplies like rakes and shovels and gloves, so that these families have the basic resources to pick up the pieces.”

The nonprofit depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission. Click here to send a donation.
