FRESNO (KMJ) — Two people are now staying in temporary accommodation, after a fire forced out of their Fresno home.
The blaze was first called in around 4.30am Friday, to a building close to Grantland and Ashlan Avenues in West Central Fresno. It was soon upgraded to a second alarm.
“It was one home involved with fire and one home damaged, and two people who lived in that home are now displaced,” explains Fresno Fire Battalion Chief Brian Price. “We’re working with Red Cross to get them some shelter.”
The sheer amount of debris both in and around the home is being blamed for both allowing the flames to spread and restricting access.
“That’s a pretty common theme in terms of fires in residential structures…where’s there’s debris and things throughout the house it’s just like a grass fire: more fuel to burn that helps contribute to the problem to make it bigger.”
The flames were also threatening nearby power cables, prompting PG&E to respond and de-energize them.
At its height more than 30 personnel were present at the fire as it was being extinguished. The cause of the blaze is expected to be designated “undetermined.”
