FRESNO (KMJ) — Seven people are now in the hospital following what Fresno PD describes as a gang-on-gang shooting.
The initial report came at 11.38pm Tuesday via the department’s ShotSpotter system. It pointed officers in the direction of Mariposa and A Street. There they found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds, and found a further four had been dropped off at CRMC.
“These were two rival gangs,” explains Lieutenant Mark Hudson. “Hispanic gang members and Asian gang members.”
Their wounds consisted of shots to the leg, arm, abdomen, and upper chest.
“The information that we received early on in the investigation indicated that the group of Hispanic males, believed to be gang members, were in the area of Mariposa and A Street when two cars of Asian males, also believed to gang members, confronted the group of Hispanics,” adds Lieutenant Hudson.
“Shots rang out and were fired. Both groups were hit by gunfire, and that’s when officers arrived in the area.”
The case remains under investigation, and is now being managed by the Street Violence Bureau.
“We believe that there may be some outstanding people involved in this shooting, however we’re dealing with those we have now.”
