FRESNO (KMJ) — A name has now been given to the latest addition to the Mounted Patrol Unit within Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

Justice was chosen by Sheriff Margaret Mims, following a public campaign earlier this year to choose a moniker for him (click here to read more).

“There were a lot of different names, and there were names that did reference our fallen Sergeant Lucas. But there were also names that referenced other fallen employees with our agency,” explains Lieutenant Kathy Curtice.

“I think when it came down to it it’s difficult to honor one person and not somebody else.”

Justice’s role with Fresno County Sheriff’s Office will be both as a law enforcement patrol horse and a mascot. He already has his own Instagram account (click here).

“We’re going to use that to communicate with the public. We recognize in this day and age social media is a very powerful tool that we can use to communicate with people.”

The Mounted Patrol Unit is tasked with patrolling residential areas, rural areas, and county parks.

“The horses are absolutely invaluable with crowd control work. So I think people will be able to see Justice as well as the other county horses working at any of those locations.”
