FRESNO (KMJ) — A man described as a “sexually violent predator” is now weeks away from being released into Fresno County.
But Jeffrey Snyder will officially be out on a transient basis.
The decision was made in Fresno County Superior Court Thursday morning, after efforts by Liberty Healthcare to relocate him to a permanent location were thwarted following both public outcry and a fire (click here to read more). As many as 1,749 homes were examined within Fresno County, but none were considered suitable.
“He will be released to probably two to three motels,” details Deputy Distirct Attorney Rick Thomas.
“According to Liberty: motels that generally house parolees and people being released or on probation or something of that nature.
“That location will change every three or four days.”
But efforts to establish a permanent address for Snyder will continue.
“Once they find one that they feel meets the needs they will then bring that back to the court.”
While in the transitional phase Jeffrey Snyder will have company hired to accompany him.
“Three extra security-type people that will be on with Mr. Snyder all the time. They’re ex-police, ex-probation, that type of individual,” explains Thomas.
“Mr. Snyder won’t be able to leave his room without permission. Any place that he goes will have to be approved a week in advance by Liberty Healthcare. He will continue his sex offender treatment.”
Thomas adds that the representative from Liberty Healthcare made it clear in the courtroom that he will remain supervised.
“He cannot leave the room that he’s at without advanced permission and without someone being with him.”
When a new permanent residence is found for Jeffrey Snyder a new court date will be set. He will remain subject to annual reviews inside Fresno County Superior Court. That will be addition to quarterly written reviews sent to the court, the defense council, and the District Attorney’s office.
Snyder’s transient release is due to begin on or before August 10th.
